Charlestown 2 – 2 Frogpool
CRUEL DRAW AS FROGPOOL DOMINATE
It dawned on me that I must have run over a black cat on the long trek to windy Charlestown as I watched the home side scramble back to earn a last gasp draw in this end of season thriller.
Frogpool arrived knowing that they needed a win to be absolutely certain of Premiership survival given that recent results had not gone according to plan.
Charlestown on the other hand knew that a win would mean that mathematically at least they were still in with a chance of challenging the current leaders for the title, and given their performance away to Frogpool a couple of weeks earlier they must have been confident of getting that result.
Playing a standard 4-4-2, Frogpool started the match strongly and it was clear to the supporters that that whatever Manager Tim had said to them over the last couple of weeks had worked - they looked like a different side. Rather than being bullied by the strength of the Charlestown attack as they had been a couple of weeks beforehand they were more than able to stand their ground and went on the offensive. Time and time again with the wind and the infamous “Charlestown slope” in their favour they were able to push on, and Charlestown were well and truly on the back foot. Chances fell to Scott and Luke and goals came agonisingly close. Although Charlestown created the occasional counter attack, these were snuffed out with tremendous defending across the back four. Thom had little, if anything to do but when the ball did come his way he tidied up with aplomb. As the game neared the end of the first half a neat header from Kian put Frogpool ahead for a well-deserved lead just before the half time whistle blew.
Charlestown are used to this pitch and so were probably expecting to use it to their advantage in the second half, but shortly after the restart Scott battled his way through down the flank and with a run that contained power, skill and first class finishing, was able to fire in from an acute angle to double the lead.
From a spectators’ point of view it was almost as if the wind had stopped and despite utter domination and several more chances Frogpool were unable to add to their lead despite illustrious efforts from man of the match Kian, Scott and Luke.
Then, just as the game was nearing the final quarter a freak goal was conceded by Frogpool direct from a throw-in that caught first the wind, and then Thom marginally but agonisingly out of position. Charlestown are not second in the league for nothing though and they clearly sensed a heroic comeback was on the cards. A second goal was conceded from a corner kick and the game ended 2-2.
It’s been a while since I used a cliché but this really was the definition of being “sick as a parrot”. Frogpool had dominated this match for about 80% of the game and I could easily be writing about a 5-0 win. However, the score is the score and credit to Charlestown for their perseverance and staying focused enough to earn the draw – they’ll feel they won a point whilst Frogpool will feel that they threw away 2.
Objectively for me though there is more that can be taken from this game. Frogpool competed head-to-head with a good strong well-organised team. Frogpool played well-thought-out and attractive football, not just lumping it over the top. Remember also that we’re Frogpool and we learn and we improve and fortunately we have one last chance this season to put on a show and properly position ourselves for next season. Next week sees Wendron visit, a skillful team, and a Team that Frogpool have not got a result against this season with an unlucky cup defeat and Frogpool’s worst performance all season away at Wendron. It feels to me though that mentally the side that played at Charlestown are stronger than two weeks ago, and physically they were the best that they’ve been all season. They’ve moved on. They’re fired up and they must also know that the goal drought is over. With home advantage and the forecast of good weather the fixture is set up nicely in their favour. A Wendron win would see them chase Truro home for the title so it’s a must win, pressured game for them. Do Frogpool want it more though? – let’s wait and see.

Helston Potters 0 -10 Frogpool
AND...WE'RE BACK IN THE ROOM
Frogpool awoke from last weekend’s trance and managed to score 5 in each half away to league strugglers Helston to give them a much needed confidence boost as they face the crucial final two games of the season.
In some of the worst windy and wet conditions that they’ve encountered all year Frogpool arrived at Helston keen and eager to bounce back against a Team that have found the going tough this year. Last week was the stuff of nightmares but there’s still plenty of life left in this league and Frogpool knew that nothing less than a convincing win would be good enough in order to set themselves up for the last hurrah of this topsy-turvy season.
Frogpool were first out of the blocks, and with the wind fortunately blowing across the pitch, neither Team had a Heaven’s sent advantage. Straight away though Frogpool started to push hard and with the Helston defence on the back foot it was Scott who battled through and fired home for an early lead. A brief scare followed when Helston appeared to equalize but the goal was ruled off side. After this the floodgates opened. First the pressure resulted in a deflected own goal before Scott added a second with a header followed by two very different goals for Luke, the first a piece of individual close controlled skill followed by a rasping shot at an acute angle into the roof of the net.
In the second half Scott once again kicked off proceedings with another trademark driving run to wrap up his hat-trick earning himself a well deserved rest, before a further own goal, very much down to the presence of eventual man of the match Toby in the opponents box, added another and then Ethan also got on the score sheet following a great back heal from Luke. Luke then scored to complete his hat trick and finally Jake also got in on the act with determined perseverance to fire home a scorcher. And by my reckoning that made it 10 just before the referee’s final whistle.
Some of the Helston boys then joined the trip to Plymouth to watch England U20’s take on and beat the USA in a further football fest and to reinforce the camaraderie of a game that was played in a very good natured way.
Special mention should be given to the Helston goalkeeper, who, despite the score line, made an extraordinary number of great saves throughout the match.
So, after the wind and rain, and Frogpool’s best result of the season what can they really take from this match into the next 2 games. Well, it proved that they can score plenty of goals. Both of their leading scorers bagged themselves quality hat tricks and realistically could have scored even more if it were not for some epic goalkeeping. It proved that they are able to keep a clean sheet. Helston’s forwards were much better than the final score might suggest but strong and well disciplined defending from the back four kept them at bay all afternoon. Of course this needs to translate when faced with tougher opposition and more aggressive attackers but the clean sheet speaks for itself. And creatively across mid-field Frogpool were first class.
So, with the end of the season in sight, there’s a clamour to go out on a high. Clearly Frogpool are facing two decent Teams that they have struggled against this season but are they Teams Frogpool can beat? What do you think boys???

Frogpool 1 – 4 Charlestown Saints
SAINTS FINISHING SIMPLY TOO GOOD FOR FROGPOOL
It was a weekend of second halves that Frogpool might choose to forget. And the second half of this weekend fizzled out in the same way as the first half with their opponents scoring 3 goals without reply (in the second half).
This was always going to be a tough game. In many ways Charlestown present a more challenging threat than the previous days opponents. They play with a single mindedness and focus that has seen them challenge for the title this year, so they arrived knowing that they needed to win. Frogpool on the other hand were looking to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointment and once again, conditions were just about perfect for a great game of football.
I’ve said it time and time again this year that Frogpool are a great side of terrific talent and better than their league position suggests, but when Charlestown scored early on a sense of Déjà vu descended down like a low-lying choking smog. The Charlestown goal, as well finished as it was, was really against the run of play. So Frogpool fought back and when it came, Kian’s equalizer was well deserved.
After half time with the scores level everyone hoped that they could push on and grab a winner, whilst defending resolutely against a marauding Charlestown attack that had suddenly come to life. However, it wasn’t to be, and despite chances falling again to Jacob, Scott and Luke Frogpool were not able to penetrate the Charlestown goal and 3 goals from the visitors more than sealed their fate.
Now then, Football is meant to be enjoyable. As a spectator it should raise your heartbeat and make you cheer. And as a player, when things go well, it should give you a sense of euphoria that an Xbox game simply can’t emulate. But at times it can also frustrate you and leave you bewildered and perplexed. No one is going to say that this weekend was a success, least of all me. The fact is that we played two Teams that beat us and they beat us well. But there were long periods in the first half of both of these matches where it could easily have gone the other way. Across the board in this Team there is a level of talent, hard work and honesty that deserves more than this weekend gave to them. With focus, belief and a little bit of luck in front of goal I for one am sure Frogpool can win these remaining fixtures.
There are 3 more games left this season. Helston next week, Wendron (at home) and a chance to redeem ourselves against yesterdays opponents away.

Truro City Phoenix 3 – 0 Frogpool
A GAME OF TWO HALVES
Some of these reports are easier to write than others. I’m thinking of the big wins, the amazing fight-backs and the hard fought draws – all of which, as supporters, we’ve witnessed this season. And as supporters of an U14’s football team you only really want to see them give 100%. Against a Team doing as well as Truro are at present nothing less was ever going to be good enough and although if you’re looking at the result but weren’t at the match and thinking that it was only a 60% performance then I’m here to tell you that simply wasn’t the case.
In perfect conditions on a sunny morning at Malpas the Frogpool convoy rolled into town. Buoyed by a fantastic win against Culdrose, and realistically sniffing at a runners-up spot if they performed well in their remaining fixtures against the competition at the top end of the league Frogpool were keen to get started. And they started strong with intent and command. Anyone who was at the corresponding home tie will recall that Truro play a savvy style of football. They can disrupt play, challenge decisions and can be very physical compared to other opponents. They are strong in the tackle and quick on the break. Enough of that though, because for the majority of the first half Frogpool enjoyed the lions share of possession. Roared on by their support they found a number of breaks and Scott went close first of all. At the other end Thom was in fine form and swept up anything that managed to get past the back four, not that much did. In fact, I can say with conviction, that this was the best half I have seen from the defence all season, and that’s saying something.
This game however turned on one pivotal moment. With the half edging towards half time a through ball found Luke charging down on goal. At that point you’d have bet the mortgage that he’d have finished neatly against the Truro keeper but he was taken down by the last defender and denied his chance.
Truro went on to score 3 second half goals, two from corners and one piece of goal mouth pin ball and the game finished 3-0.
There’s not a lot more I can say.……..

Frogpool United 4 – 2 Culdrose
REMEMBER THE DAY, REMEMBER WHERE YOU WERE. FROGPOOL FIGHT BACK TO CLINCH MEMORABLE WIN.
I’m sorry to have to break the news to you, but Google is broken. Somewhere in silicone valley, there is a geek with his feet up who should be updating this stuff, but he’s not. And while I’m at it, I’m going to cancel my Sky Sports subscription because that’s not working either. You see, I got home today and nowhere…nowhere could I find mention of Frogpool’s fight-back today. I Googled ‘best ever second half come-backs’ and some mumbo jumbo about Istanbul came up. So then I thought I’d look at the best ever half-time team talks. Sure, there was Shankly, Paisley, Benitez, Clough, Ramsey to name but a few, but I couldn’t find Moody anywhere. Because, what must have taken place at half time in the Frogpool dressing room was surely a rallying call to match the best. A call to arms that must have resonated with this Frogpool team in a way that we should package and sell on eBay. But I am digressing because as I said, the Internet must be broken.
So this was a challenge. Let’s not beat around the bush. Culdrose are a great team, full of goal scorers, full of discipline, full of heart and they have proven that they can challenge the best that this league has to offer. In this home tie Frogpool knew that they would have to be at their best and on the back of a couple of good results, confidence was high. There was a sense that this was going to be a tough day at the office and in the bright sunshine as the match kicked off, who knew what the afternoon was to deliver.
Both sides were quick out of the blocks and Frogpool were quickly off the mark when a pulsating run down the right by Luke found him one on one with the goalkeeper and he fired home for an early lead.
Nobody though thought this was going to be easy and memories of their clash away earlier in the season were to prove very relevant when within minutes, a looped cross from the left hand side found the back of the net.
The game continued in what can only be described as a tussle of cat and mouse. Although Frogpool were battling hard they were being bludgeoned by the Culdrose midfield and attack and only heroics from the back four today, Will, James, Harry, Toby (on for Harry) and Keaton stemmed the score from turning into a mauling. Sure enough though, Culdrose found an opening and although Thom (more about him later) managed to direct the ball onto the bar, a follow up from the Culdrose attacker put the visitors 1 - 2 up.
As the first half was edging to an end, a through ball found Kian one on one against the goalkeeper and agonisingly, the ball went wide. In this instant, Frogpool could have decided that today was going to be one of those days.
Times, they have changed though Frogpullians. And this Frogpool team did not look worried. Far from it. In fact they just continued with a sense of belief that was awe-inspiring. Despite further chances falling to both sides, the half finished 1 - 2 and the teams retreated to their respective dressing rooms.
Now then, I’m not one to use film metaphors but as you watched the teams walk out for the second half, there was a sense of Reservoir Dogs about Frogpool. Maybe they were just eleven Mr. Greens, but they knew that there was a job to do and they were the team to do it.
The half kicked off and Frogpool were immediately on the front foot. Manager Tim had already made changes bringing in Ethan, Jacob S, Toby and new signing, Darren.
Frogpool battled and they battled hard. Make no mistake, Culdrose are not a soft side, they are a tremendous team and they are able to wield a decisive blow when it is needed as they have proven already many times this season. Maybe in the back of their minds was the sides’ earlier clash when Frogpool fought back for what many would say was a fortunate 2 - 2 draw at Culdrose. So when Scott managed to break free from the man-to-man marking that followed him all afternoon long to slot the ball home, those memories must have come flooding back.
If you asked me at that point would 2 -2 have been a good result? I may have said yes. But I need to find some more faith people. Because this Frogpool team is made of better stuff. As the half continued, a word started to appear on the lips of the home support. Belief. Belief that this team with a fantastic goalkeeper, a solid back four, an ingenious mid-field and an attack that should really be putting the fear of God into all of their opponents, had aligned themselves like the stars on Oscar night.
And so, even though the moment was met with euphoria, it was the eventual Man of the Match, Scott who had stuck to his task all afternoon (not withstanding a small break), who stood strong and found himself one on one with the goalkeeper, calmly stroking it home. 3 - 2.
At that point, the home crowd took a worried look at their watches but they needn't have bothered because by the time they looked up, Scott had repeated almost to the frame, the same goal to put the home side 4 - 2 up.
The rest of the game was still a hard fought and hard won battle, but by that time most of the supporters were probably more exhausted than the players, who looked like they could have continued for another 20 minutes.
Only a last gasp chance on the Frogpool goal gave the visiting team hope but guess what? Thom was there, a save that would have graced the best of the highlights on Match of the Day and in that moment, it summed up the performance of the team.
Now some may say that this was only one game of football. One game of football on a sunnyish day in Frogpool. But it wasn’t. This was a game that demonstrated how good the Frogpool team can be. How they can compete, battle, play with skill, finesse and determination. How they can defend as one and how they can ultimately score four goals, whilst on the back foot, against a really good team. This is the Frogpool that we know. This is the Frogpool that, on their day, can beat any team, and I mean any team, in this league. So come on boys, remember this feeling and remember this belief. Because this is what winning feels like and boy, doesn’t it feel good.
And by the way for those of you who agree that that night in Istanbul was the greatest comeback ever, you’re probably right. But today, Frogpool and Cusgarne Youth Football Club walked on the shoulders of giants.

Falmouth United 1 – 4 Frogpool
Four more for Frogpool on a Sunny Sunday afternoon !
Two in each half gave Frogpool a well-deserved win against a much-improved Falmouth Team on a fabulous Sunday afternoon at Falmouth’s artificial home pitch.
Following Frogpool’s demolition of Falmouth earlier in the season, the visiting side may have expected it to rain goals, but Falmouth look to have turned a corner, dangerous at times on the counter attack they presented a well organised and physical challenge.
The game started well for Frogpool, and once again they probed both wings relentlessly through Cmck and Luke. Chances fell to Scott, Luke and Jake but the shots went high and wide. This early pressure though eventually paid off when, chasing down what seemed to be a lost cause, Cmck forced an error from the Falmouth keeper and followed the ball home for an early lead. This was however the only mistake the Falmouth keeper made, and time and time again during the afternoon he produced a number of tremendous saves.
As the half moved on, Scott started to find some space, and it was on one of his powerful probing runs that he managed to break free and slot home the ball for a two nil lead.
Frogpool weren’t having it all their own way though, and with the benefit of their quick forwards Falmouth found some space down the right, but time and time again they came up against both James and Will with great covering when needed from Josh, and with the pace of Harry on the right really suffocating any chances that came their way there was little drama at the Frogpool end as the half finished.
In the second half Falmouth reverted to a more direct route and it was one such ball that found the Falmouth striker in space on the right that he was able to run onto and score to give the home Team hope of a fight-back and for a period early in the second half they really got the bit between their teeth. This seemed to be the wake up call Frogpool needed and they once again started to dominate the midfield with plenty of trademark precision balls neatly slotted through by the eternal protagonist and man of the match Rob.
Industrious performances from Euan, Jacob M, Marshall, Ethan and Anthony in midfield and attack, as well as some great headers from Vini in defence all contributed to Frogpool’s regained dominance and it eventually further goals from Scott and Luke completed the job for what ultimately had turned into a comfortable win.
This was a great performance, and despite a few wobbles early in the second half the result was really never in doubt. What stood out though was that the Team appeared comfortable with the ball and looked to find space and movement at every opportunity. Frogpool’s forwards have the ability to dominate the opposing defences and in the coming games will need to display the quality of finishing that they know they are more than capable of. The next match is against Culdrose at home, a Team who are known for having an equally powerful attack and the defence will need to be disciplined and at their best to limit their chances. If this is the case, Frogpool know they will create chances and so it should be a thriller.

Frogpool 9 - 1 Helston
9's DIVINE AS FROGPOOL SHINE
Hatricks for Scott and Kian plus a brace for CMck ensured that Frogpool improved their batting average significantly in this league duel, overcoming the visitors with a second half flurry of goals.
Frogpool welcomed Helston Potters to this match, a side whose league position clearly does not do them justice, having scored against some mightier opposition as well as causing their own cup upset earlier in the season.
As has sometimes been the case so far, Frogpool started methodically and in a measured way probing both wings, and it took a while before the breakthrough came courtesy of Scott, a neat shot despatched with aplomb (copyright. LeeF). This calmed the Teams nerves and a second followed courtesy of a trademark low-drilled shot from James. Kian added a third and with the home team feeling comfortable, Frogpool pushed forward looking to kill the game off.
Unfortunately Helston had other ideas, and had a couple of shots on target which were purposefully dealt with by Thom. Soon after though a ball over the top caught the defence watching and Helston ran on to fire home. As the Teams went in at half-time Helston had their tails up and would have thought they could stage a second half come back.
The second half started with Frogpool in an altogether different frame of mind though. CMck ploughed a trail relentlessly down the flanks and Kian too was starting to look hungry for more. Whenever Helston found some space, the ball was neatly mopped up by the all of the usual defensive suspects and Frogpool started to dominate the midfield too with Marshall, and Rob commanding the space with a mixture of driving runs and neat through balls fed from the heart of midfield.
On the back of this Frogpool dominated and second half goals flooded in from Cmck, Kian - flicked on from midfield and then a penalty following a shoulder barge on CMck which he got up to fire home like a missile. Scott, who by now was running riot scored another two and the match was rounded off by Kian who, like Scott, grabbed a third with the game finishing shortly afterwards.
Whilst Helston’s struggles in the league may mean that some would see this result as a forgone conclusion, they were a good and well organized side with some significant fire power and you would expect them to compete readily with any team in this league for the rest of this season. The score should not be seen to flatter Frogpool either, who had to work hard for the win, but found space and finishing in the second half that they have sometimes struggled to deliver consitently. In the end though, on a weekend that saw numerous FA Cup upsets, this will be seen as a good result. It binds the Team together more strongly, proves that goal-scoring is part of their DNA and, with other results on the day not all going as expected, gives them a glimmer of hope that they can still claw their way back up the league to finish in a decent position. Sometimes you don’t need clichés for Football, this was old school - muddy, honest and a pleasure to spectate. The next stop for Frogpool is the rescheduled away game against Falmouth, and you would hope that Frogpool will continue there where they left off today.

Frogpool 1 - 1 Newquay
THE MOJO'S BACK - LAST GASP FROGPOOL THUNDERBOLT SECURES DRAW
Hosts Frogpool battled back from a goal down to grab a draw against high flyers Newquay in this thoroughly entertaining league encounter with all bets off for goal of the season as a sublime second half strike from Luke stunned the crowd.
Having drawn 1-1 in the league earlier in the season both Teams have since shared mixed fortunes, and it was Newquay who had got the upper hand when the Teams last met in the cup back in November, so as the match started, Manager Tim had asked his players to recapture the early belief that was so prominent at the start of this season.
The match kicked off and it was reassuring for the home support that Frogpool had clearly listened to the instructions, looking exactly like a revitalized side returning from the Christmas break, eager to prove that they are better than the team whose last game of 2014 they will want to forget.
Most of the early chances fell to Frogpool who enjoyed good penetration down the right wing, thanks largely to the determination of Kian and down the left courtesy of CMck. In the early exchanges chances fell to Kian, Luke and Scott, but none were put away even with Newquay largely on the back foot.
As the game settled down, Newquay started to find some form and battled hard in the middle of the pitch. They enjoyed some decent attacks funneled down the right but the performance of Will was outstanding showing energy, alertness and determination. The back four continued to sweep up whatever Newquay threw at them in a performance reminiscent of their earlier games with the pace of Harry, Josh’s awareness and skill and the towering strength of Keaton, but as time wore on Newquay countered well with a number of probing runs down both flanks. Thom too was at his best and made a couple of quite astonishing long range fingertip saves to keep the Teams level.
So it came as a bit of a shock when after about 20 minutes into the first half a through ball over the top caught the Frogpool defence on the back foot and, despite Thom’s best efforts, the Newquay striker ran through to fire home for the lead.
Frogpool regrouped and continued to probe hard for the remainder of the first half but despite coming close again through Scott, were unable to break Newquay down.
The half time Team talk seemed to do the trick, and Frogpool started the second half in determined fashion. Newquay, having enjoyed success through the tactic in the first half, and using the skill and possession they were enjoying in the middle of the park as a launchpad seemed to have decided to channel the long ball over the top, and like an Apollo Astronaut stuck in his Rocket at Cape Canaveral the cries of “launch it ! launch it !” from the Newquay Management Team were repeated endlessly for the remainder of the game. By now though, the Frogpool defence had got the measure of this and it failed to deliver the desired results for the rest of the game.
For their part, Frogpool came close on several occasions with Luke and Jake both coming close. Scott too broke free and only a fantastic save at his feet from the Newquay keeper that was eventually scambled away by the defence kept Frogpool from leveling. Despite their best efforts as the game entered its final 10 minutes it looked as though the finishing monkey may have crept onto the Frogpool backs again.
With the game hotting up, and Newquay now defending vigorously for all they were worth the ball was fed out to the right and found its way to Luke. Newquay’s defending had been substantial for most of the afternoon but this time though instead of trying to play the ball through, Luke shot - the ball leaving his foot with such ferocity that the net almost gave way. In scenes reminiscent of a Brazilian Samba party the crowd erupted (or maybe that was just me?)
Although the goal inspired Frogpool to drive on, the game was too near to the end for them to grab, what many would agree, would have been a well deserved winner
At the end of a game in which both Teams had really given 100% by their own admission, Newquay looked disappointed, and this second league draw to Frogpool will do little to enhance their aspirations of securing the title. Frogpool though, should take the some real positives from today’s performance. Although they only earned a point, they will realise that through tenacity, focus, organisation, hard work and a genuine piece of absolute magic they were able to compete once again with one of the more fancied teams in the League.
It’s worth remembering too that for Frogpool there are still 8 games left and 24 points up for grabs. On the strength of today’s performance, as has been said before, with belief, there is no reason whatsoever why Frogpool cannot compete with the best that this league has to offer. To do so they will need to show the prowess they displayed today. For sure, it may be a long time before we see a goal as good as that one again, but do you know what Frogpooliuns, we’ll happily accept tap-ins too !

Truro Tigers 3 – 2 Frogpool
TRURO TRIUMPH DAMPENS FROGPOOL FESTIVE SPIRIT
A single goal proved decisive as Truro produced a battling performance against a Frogpool side that will be welcoming the Christmas break as an opportunity to re-group and re-focus for the second half of the season.
Frogpool arrived eager to avoid any further heartache as a result of their recent run of poor results and Truro too were looking to bounce back from their previous week’s loss at the hands of Falmouth and so the game started with both Teams quickly to get into their stride.
Once again, Frogpool created chances but all too often they were let down by the final ball through in what were sticky conditions for both sides. Truro went ahead mid way through the first half when Frogpool failed to clear a loose ball but they fought back with some degree of resilience and when Luke broke free he powered through and surprised the keeper, and possibly himself, when he placed the ball neatly over the keeper’s head.
On the strength of previous results the visiting supporters may have expected their Team to come back fully for the win, but Frogpool’s confidence is lacking a little at the moment and Truro sensed this. Sure enough Truro pushed hard at the beginning of the second half and their persistence was rewarded with a second and then a third goal.
As the clock ticked down, Frogpool suddenly seemed to remember who they were and for the last ten minutes of this game they started to look like a football team again, pushing as hard as they have done in any of their previous few matches. Scott in particular never gave up and it was this pressure which eventually lead to a foul on the determined striker which he duly dispatched.
Truro clung on for the final few minutes for a memorable victory that sees them swap places with Frogpool in the league.
And so the first half of what has been a topsy-turvy season so far draws to a close for Frogpool, during which they have proved they can win well (Falmouth) battle back when the going got tough (Culdrose) and play good attractive passing football (Wendron - at home). It could be argued that right now Frogpool just aren’t getting the rub of the green. The players are working hard and if there is one thing everyone is certain of it’s the level of skill and technical ability that exists in this Team. If you do the maths, and you look at the games that lie ahead, it’s still possible that Frogpool can claw their way back up the league and finish in a decent, possibly even winning, position. Frogpool return in the new-year with another tough test against Newquay, but this time with the advantage of being at home. Games follow against Falmouth and Helston, and if Frogpool can compose themselves, and get at least 7 or even 9 points from these games then it’s “back on” for them. Furthermore this would put them in the right frame of mind to face the sterner tests that then lie ahead. So, come on Frogpool. As the Manager said yesterday, enjoy Christmas but don’t eat too many mince pies. Come back in January focused and ready to deliver the single-mindedness that saw you battle back at Culdrose. Remember how good it feels to win and believe in yourselves that you are good enough to beat ANY team in this league.

Wendron Goats Blue 4 – 0 Frogpool
FROGPOOL BLOWN AWAY BY SKILFUL WENDRON
It was a bad day at the office as Frogpool went down once again at the hands of a clinical Wendron side who took the chances they made to consign Frogpool to their heaviest defeat of the season so far.
With a brace in each half Wendron inflicted a crushing blow on a Team that quite simply did not convert the chances they created.
The first half started frantically for both sides with the notorious wind in Wendron’s favour paying havoc. Although both sides created chances, it took an in-swinging corner, aided by the wind that seemed to fly straight in to the Frogpool net to put Wendron ahead.
Despite fighting back, a second Wendron goal followed, again with the wind playing a part leading to Thom losing the flight of the ball on the goal line.
At half time Frogpool were optimistic that they could come back but it was not to be. The second half was played very differently by both Teams. Wendron took a stranglehold on possession with their short, neat passing play and this lead to two fantastic goals to which Frogpool were unable to respond. When the Teams met earlier this season in the County Cup, the Wendron keeper had played a blinder to secure the win. This time however, he must have been quite bored.
The game ended with Frogpool well beaten but looking forward to their host’s sausage and chips to help warm them up. Sometimes a Team just doesn’t deliver the goods and Frogpool must look at themselves in the mirror and say “we’re better than this” if they don’t want to find this season stuttering to a grinding halt.

Frogpool 4 – 4 Probus
FROGPOOL FIGHT BACK IN FRIENDLY THRILLER
After a slow start Frogpool fought back against Eastern League high flyers Probus to earn themselves a well deserved draw in testing conditions.
Playing at Constantine due to the heavy rain affecting their usual base, Frogpool used this friendly as an opportunity to test out the skills of the entire squad. The early action gave an indication of what was to be a frantic match with both teams going hell for leather to score goals. Probus, a side who have scored freely in their league this year whilst only conceding one goal (a record which has resulted in them topping the table) were clearly up for the challenge. And Frogpool who have been unlucky in recent weeks were looking to hit the net and restore some of the confidence and belief that they had been lacking of late.
Pushing hard though it was Probus who went ahead and they soon added a second. With the game played in three thirds to give both teams an opportunity to experiment, eventually Frogpool started to gain back some territory and with Jacob S and Jake spearheading the attack alongside Ewan who threaded a number of balls down the left, eventually the Frogpool pressure paid off when the referee awarded a penalty. Jake stepped up and although the goalkeeper saved the first attempt, Jake pounced on the loose ball to fire home. Probus fought back and through some great skills shown by their wingers managed to break free and go 3 – 1 up.
Tim duly introduced Scott into proceedings and following a weaving run he managed to squeeze the ball in from an acute angle to make the score 3 – 2. Probus though were not finished yet and continued to apply pressure down the wings and through the middle and it was as a result of this, coupled with some confusion between Thom and James which lead to an unfortunate own goal.
At 4 – 2 down and with the boggy conditions starting to take their toll on the visitors, Frogpool were able to dip into their rich pool of talent and it was Kian who not for the first time during the match managed to break free and powerfully slot the ball home.
As the game moved into the final third, Frogpool seized the initiative. Outstanding play from Ethan, CMck and Marshall led to numerous chances for the attackers. On at least two occasions, shots from Jake and Jacob S went agonisingly close and a first time shot from Rob came back off the bar. As a team, Frogpool did not give up with the pressure on the Probus goal being relentless during this phase of the game. Ben, Caiden, Jacob M and Anthony all played their part today and so it was fitting when eventually Scott converted this pressure into a fourth goal.
The whistle blew for time soon after and the smiles on the Frogpool faces demonstrated that they had enjoyed today’s outing. Importantly, Frogpool scored four goals against a top team and played some incredibly attractive football in difficult conditions. This game will give the manager some good indicators of what works well for the team and it gives the team a much needed confidence boost on the back of last week’s defeat.
The next game for Frogpool is an away League Cup tie against Newquay and Frogpool should genuinely be looking to score some goals here. Either way though, the general consensus was that today was a great spectacle, well done to Probus who were tenacious and well organized and congratulations to Frogpool for a spirited comeback when they may well have given up the game as lost. It just goes to show that in the words of the old saying, it ain’t over ‘til the referee blows his whistle.

Frogpool 1 - 2 Truro City Phoenix/Devils
DEVILISH DISPLAY FROM VISITORS STUNS FROGPOOL
Marking Remembrance Sunday with a thoughtful, reflective and impeccably observed 2 minutes silence that put this U14's football match into perspective, a rested and revitalised Frogpool side lost their unbeaten league record to a robust and very savvy Truro team.
Looking fit and ready Frogpool welcomed Truro's first team to this match that would give a good indication of their ability to compete physically and mentally on this level with an opponent that pundits are expecting to deliver great things this year. With the grey clouds looming the game kicked off with Truro pushing hard. Frogpool though were also quick out of the blocks and unlike their last match, were immediately mindful of the Truro threat and wise to their pressing play. In the early stages the defence swept up everything that Truro threw at them and, welcoming back a fit Luke, looked impressive in attack creating a number of chances with both Luke and Scott going close.
Some great defending from Truro prevented Frogpool going ahead but it looked likely that Frogpool could and would eventually find a way through. Demonstrating his skills in the final third Anthony, playing against his old team, showed touches of brilliance but alas, Frogpool were not able to get the ball in the back of the net during this phase of the game. On occasions, with the Truro keeper rampaging from his box, Frogpool did come very close so it was incredibly frustrating when a counter attack resulted in a goal for Truro.
Sometimes when a team goes a goal down the writing is on the wall but it was obvious looking at their body language that the Frogpool team felt hard done by and knew that they needed to show resilience to get back in the game. Pushing hard in attack, and standing up to some ferocious tackles as well as defending for all their worth against opponents who were by now brimming with confidence, the teams went in at half time with the score unchanged.
The second half resumed with little to differentiate between the teams. Frogpool continued to play attractive football with further chances being created and when a free kick just outside the box was awarded, the goal beckoned but unfortunately despite getting the ball up and down over the wall the keeper was able to make a straight forward save from Jake's shot. As the game wore on Truro threw everything they had at Frogpool and continued to show a level of gamesmanship that the home team had not encountered before but things changed when a through ball found Scott, he dispatched first the defender and then the ball, firing it accurately into the back of the net.
At 1 -1 with home advantage and the knowledge that they had created the lion's share of the chances in the match, Frogpool looked to push ahead for the winner but when an attack down the left found them on the back heel in defence, a powerful shot from the edge of the box slipped agonisingly wide of the diving Thom and clipped inside the post to put the visitors 2 - 1 up.
With the clock ticking away, Frogpool searched for another equaliser with Scott, Luke and Ewan who looked like a threat when he came on, pushing forward relentlessly. All match, the strikers had really had to work hard for their chances and when another foul on Scott resulted in a free-kick in a slightly better position than the first, the goal mouth sent Jake another party invite but again, unfortunately for Frogpool the keeper safely collected the ball.
The game marched on with both teams creating chances. Thom repeatedly put his body on the line diving at the oncoming feet of the Truro attack. Likewise, the defence also produced a good performance today with Josh, Harry, Keaton, Will and James all standing solid against some very aggressive and quick attacking play. In midfield Marshall, CMck, Kian, Toby and Rob all battled hard and showed some great skills.
Ultimately however the game fizzled out with the visitors holding on to their slender lead and taking all three points, propelling them to second place in the league and dropping Frogpool to third. At the end Tim gathered his battle weary troops together and collectively reflected on the positives that this encounter had produced. Although they should be disappointed with the final score Frogpool will realise how close they were today to bagging a result that would have sent shock waves to their forthcoming opponents. As it stands, today they have made their target of winning Trophies this year slightly more difficult but it should be remembered that it is still early days in this season and they will get plenty of chances against their rivals to make amends with what is, when it clicks, surely going to be one of the strongest strike forces in the league.
The next couple of weeks should see a friendly match against Probus followed by a second round cup away match against Newquay before returning to the league.

Culdrose Phantoms 2 - 2 Frogpool
FROGPOOL FIGHT BACK IN "THE GREAT ESCAPE"
There was whistling in the air at the end of a match that saw a determined Frogpool side bounce back from 2 - 0 down with two second half goals to earn themselves a hard fought draw.
Travelling to Culdrose, a team whose reputation was the result of utter domination in last year's championship, the visiting side were looking to steady the ship following last week's disappointing cup defeat. For their part Culdrose did not set off like a team who have struggled in a couple of their early games this season and in the initial stages of this game, they seemed to catch the Frogpool defence flat-footed on several occasions. In a tough but fair battle in the mid-field, Culdrose ensured that they seized possession whenever the ball fell loose and the signs were ominous. Despite breaking free and coming close on a few occasions with chances falling to Jacob M and Scott, it felt like it would only be a matter of time before Culdrose went ahead. Armed with the potent strike force that had scored a hat full of goals in last year's lower league, they proved that they could hold their own against tougher opposition and when a through ball on the right found their winger in open space, it was duly dispatched.
Far from waking up to the threat, Frogpool struggled to focus on the task in hand and when Culdrose broke through for a second goal many may have thought that the home team could end up scoring four or five.
Towards the end of the first half Frogpool started to regain some of their usual composure and a sense of belief, particularly in the mid-field where the majority of the play was being contested. Manager Tim switched the team around but clearly Frogpool needed half time to re-evaluate the way they had been playing.
The second half started with Frogpool kicking uphill and against the boisterous wind. However, despite these factors there was a palpable sense that the half time talk had resonated with a team who had left the pitch looking beaten. Even though the Culdrose attack seemed as strong as it did in the first half quite clearly something had changed in the heads of the Frogpool side. Looking like a team again, who were mindful of their shape and who until 30 minutes ago had held the strongest defensive record in the league, they started to knock the ball between each other accurately and on the ground. Up until this point Scott had been frustrated by the physicality of the Culdrose defence but as we have seen time and time again this season, an accurate pass neatly slotted through by Rob found Scott who pushed on and fired home past the oncoming Culdrose keeper.
At this point there was still a long way to go in this match but what was witnessed over the remainder was a show of teamwork, togetherness and guts coupled with the belief that had escaped Frogpool in the earlier part of this game. Culdrose continued to battle hard but now Frogpool were being first to the ball, clearing up loose passes and working for each other. The Frogpool defence who it has to be said, had looked shaky at the start, stood strong and an inspired second half display from Josh ensured the Culdrose attack were frustrated. Likewise Harry, Keaton, Will and James who returned to the field of play after taking an earlier knock, all remembered their lines.
Frogpool found opportunities coming their way with both Anthony and Kian ploughing the wings relentlessly in the second half. Industrious work from Marshall, Rob and Jake in the mid-field was also a prominent feature and as the game moved into the last quarter, another ball threaded through found CMck and with clinical precision and to the euphoria of the team, he neatly lifted the ball into the back of the net. A couple of acrobatic saves from Thom drew applause from the whole crowd and further chances presented themselves to Scott and CMck who broke through on goal again but the game finished in a 2 - 2 draw.
At the end of this honest and well contested game of football a draw looked like a fair result. This wasn't one of Frogpool's strongest displays. Of course, there were glimpses of brilliance and when they found themselves in space and looked up time after time Frogpool found the pass that they needed. But it was the first half that let them down when they did not appreciate the skill and pace of the opposing team. However, the most important thing today was the result and what Frogpool proved was that even with their backs against the wall and with their heads down, playing against a well organised, skilful and physical side (and uphill and against the wind) they were able to fight back and this was a lesson that they will do well to remember as the season marches on.
After the match, Manager Tim expressed how pleased he was with the performance in the second half and the visiting support also knew they had got value for money. Frogpool's next game in a couple of weeks time is against another one of the fancied sides, Truro Phoenix. If Frogpool display the spirit and hard work that they produced in the second half, you wouldn't bet against them. As I walked back to the car, I couldn't help but notice a line of newly dug soil that must have been released from the trouser legs of the Frogpool Team. Good tunnelling chaps - we march on !!!

Frogpool 0 - 1 Wendron Blue
FROGPOOL FRUSTRATED IN TIGHT CUP TIE
Frogpool exited the Cornwall Cup despite a one-sided display of dominance on a day when they failed to find the back of the net. The chances came thick and fast for a determined and well organised Frogpool side who will be wondering how they are not in the third round draw this evening.
Frogpool started this second round match with a sense of purpose and belief that would appear to have knitted together the early promise they had already shown this season. James, who was rock solid the whole match, fired an early cross into the Wendron box within the first few moments which gave a signal of intent. Scott then seized upon a poor back pass and was unlucky not to convert. A further chance, still within the first five minutes, came close courtesy of Keaton and this merely gave a flavour of the onslaught that the Wendron defence were forced to endure for virtually the entire first half. Additional chances from Kian, Marshall, Jake and a further two from Scott all came agonisingly close, but despite this, Frogpool stuck to the task in hand, and probed the Wendron wings relentlessly.
Wendron then had a shot into the side of the net.
Despite a couple of worthwhile penalty calls and further chances falling to James and an incredible half- volley from Jake (equalling ten recorded meaningful attempts on goal in the first half), the heroics of the Wendron goalkeeper managed to keep the game alive for the visiting team as they went into half time.
The second half started for Scott where he had left off with another scintillating and determined run, but Wendron had woken up to the danger and defended for all they were worth. As the game moved on Wendron found more possession and started to play the long ball through the middle and on a couple of occasions, goalkeeper Thom was called upon to think fast, come off his line and collect from the oncoming Wendron attack.
Throughout the match though, the Wendron team failed to break down the Frogpool defence and notable performances from Josh, who cleared up countless loose balls and Keaton who always had the measure of the Wendron attack prevented any realistic chances for the visiting team. Harry was also superb and alongside a solid performance from Will, the defence cast a formidable shadow the entire match.
Even though the Wendron team had started to gain more possession, it came as a complete shock when a floated chip, wrong footed Thom and to everyone's disbelief sailed into the Frogpool net. Knowing they were still playing the better football, Frogpool's heads did not drop and as manager Tim brought on Toby and Jacob M Frogpool once again took a grip on this game. Indeed they thought they had finally broken through when Scott's ankle inexplicably appeared to collide with a Wendron hand, but despite trying his best to stay on his feet he was unable to gain the advantage. Further shots from Scott, CMck and another fantastic volley from Jake rained down on the Wendron goal but no matter how hard they tried, the Wendron keeper's inspired performance prevented Frogpool from equalising.
Frogpool stuck to their guns, but unfortunately for the home fans, the game ended along with Frogpool's County Cup hopes in a 0 - 1 loss.
At the end of the game the Frogpool players looked disappointed. But it wasn't the look of disappointment that you would experience when you miss your favourite TV programme or find that your parents are taking you on holiday to Bognor and not Bermuda. No, this was the look of determined disappointment. The one where you know that soon you'll be cruising around the Caribbean but today you might have to settle for watching a repeat of Coronation Street with your parents. The visiting team left today thankful of the win and they will no doubt go onward and upward in this cup competition. But it was the home team, ironically, who will probably be more pleased with their performance today. They played good football, battled well and applauded their opponents' win. For sure, they will be hurting but for a team that didn't quite deliver all they were worth last year, this match probably came at the right time for Frogpool. They will learn from this, they will regroup, they will be stronger and their next few matches will be played knowing that they are capable of competing with the best.

Frogpool 11 - 0 Falmouth United
11 OUT OF 10 AS FROGGERS SCORE TOP MARKS.
Frogpool issued a statement of intent against newly promoted Falmouth United in this eagerly awaited home tie, scoring 11 without reply.
There would be players who woke early this bright Sunday morning salivating at the prospect of facing an old foe who had tripped them up on a number of previous occasions. Resplendent in their bright new kit, Frogpool looked ready, willing and able to take on a Falmouth side that have historically been very difficult to break down. And so it proved as Falmouth burst out of the blocks with a sense of purpose and determination that had Frogpool on the back foot.
Falmouth attacked hard in the early stages of this game and on a couple of occasions, came very close to burying the ball in the back of the Frogpool net. Once again, despite their early jitters, Frogpool steadied the ship and started to exert their control over the game. It came as some relief when who else, but Scott, broke free, used his power and pace and blasted the ball in the back of the Falmouth net. Not for the first time this season this steadied the Frogpool nerves and they seemed to gain a sense of belief. Jake soon added two more and it didn't take long before a frankly stupendous effort from James looped over the keeper and ended up in the back of the net and this was the cue for Manager Tim to throw on Anthony and Ewan.
Despite some heatedly contested tackles in the mid-field, Frogpool continued to dominate and with his GPS switched off, Keaton found himself in front of the goal shooting agonisingly high of the cross bar. Toby added a fifth and as Frogpool smelt blood and continued to push forward James, going for a second spectacular goal also managed to put the ball just over the bar. Much to Falmouth's relief, the half time whistle blew and this gave them a chance to enjoy a Phil Brown style rallying call in the centre circle.
Falmouth's half time team talk seemed to do the trick and they started the second half with a renewed sense of vigour, pinning Frogpool in their own half for much of the first five minutes. As we've come to expect, the Frogpool back four stood resolute and inspired defending from Josh and Harry who broke free along the wing time after time, usually after making vital tackles provided the catalyst for some spectacular swash-buckling counter attacking play.
It was on the back of one of these that new signing Kian curled a ball like a frisbee over the Falmouth Keeper. A further effort from a monumental volley by Jacob M ended up clipping the bar but he made amends moments later when he chased down the keeper for a well executed goal. A further goal was added by CMck which was neatly placed between the goal keeper's legs.
The goal of the game was a diving header from Toby which almost broke the back of the net and Frogpool wrapped up the outfield play with a cameo goal from Scott who seized upon a poor kick from the goal keeper.
With the final whistle beckoning and with Falmouth clearly backed up against the wall a foul on Jake resulted in the award of a penalty. Sensing the occasion, as a Team Frogpool beckoned the ever resourceful Thom to take the kick and of course he put it away like a seasoned pro.
The final whistle came as some relief to both teams and the Frogpool fans, with a sigh, realised that they had just witnessed a masterclass. In reality, the result did not do justice to a Falmouth side who tackled well all day but lacked the fire power to convert the chances they created.
Frogpool will be very pleased with this result. Arguably, despite it, they have played better this season and they must still look to learn lessons from today. The early part of the season has enabled them to find their feet, bond as a team, demonstrate the passing football that they are renowned for and score plenty of goals. Their next fixture is a home tie in the second round of the Cornwall Cup against Wendron Blue and this will, without a shadow of a doubt, present their sternest test so far. As a spectator, you get the impression that the team continues to gel, continues to battle, continues to develop and continues it's journey into the unknown. Only the Frogpudlians and their sense of belief will deliver the next step of this potentially mighty season.

Frogpool 6 - 1 Wendron Reds
Whilst the endless summer continued, Frogpool played host to Wendron's conference side in this 1st round Cornwall FA County Cup match. Following the exertion of last week, Frogpool were looking to ease themselves gently into the second round in a tie that the statisticians would have you believe should have been a walk in the park and the early parts of this match seemed to indicate that this would be the case.
To their immense credit however, Wendron defended admirably despite an onslaught channelled through the attacking pairing of Scott and Jake. Indeed, some may say that Frogpool were lucky not to concede with one or two balls played through, but without sounding like a broken record, once again the Frogpool defence remained resolute, with solid performances by Josh, Will, James and the ever majestic Keaton.
It wasn't until mid-way through the first half that the ball came to Josh just outside the home team's 18 yard box and as if he was auditioning for a remake of Forrest Gump, he ran, ran, ran the length of the pitch and guided a thunderbolt of a ball into the 6 yard box where pressure from CMac paid off with an unfortunate own goal.
With a realisation that they had the upper hand, Frogpool took control and started to produce some of the most attractive football that the home crowd had witnessed so far this season. Short, neat, accurate and decisive moves gave the lion's share of possession to Frogpool but it took a spectacular effort from Jake, who had only just narrowly missed with a beautiful curling free kick, to double Frogpool's lead. With their lines well rehearsed, a further goal was tucked away by Scott before half time and Frogpool went into the break thinking that their work was done.
Wendron started the second half with a renewed purpose and one or two of their players who had been quiet in the first half seemed to come to life. It came as no surprise when an attacking move down the right flank was hurled into the Frogpool box, but unlike previous occasions, Frogpool failed to deal with the clearance and somehow it ended up in the back of the net. For a short period of time and with their tails up, Wendron tried to get back into the game, but it was not to be.
As manager Tim signalled the changes, Frogpool once more started to dominate as they had done in the first half. A battling performance combined with great Tekkers from Rob ground their opponents down and it felt like it was time for another goal. Right on cue, Jake once again delivered, this time with a rasping shot from 20 yards. Although many expected the flood gates to open, Wendron continued to defend their half but as time went on fitness was starting to play a part and with the added fire power of Ewan and Anthony, the number of chances being created grew. Ewan came close on a couple of occasions and solid work by Jacob M and Harry resulted in a tidy tap-in for Anthony. Jake added another to complete his hat-trick with a thunderous shot that the goalkeeper simply couldn't keep hold of and with their work all but done, Frogpool enjoyed playing out the rest of the match.
Of course, no match would be complete without a spectacular save from Thom and in the dying minutes of this game he stretched to his left to keep out what would have definitely been a great consolation goal.
Frogpool march on to the second round and eagerly await the draw. This was another strong performance and gave perhaps the best insight yet into the depth of this team. Frogpool return to the league and their home ground next week against Falmouth United and will need to ensure that they have their thinking caps on for what is bound to be a much stronger test. However, no-one can deny that this was attractive football played out with a good attitude and a continued level of focus.

Newquay 1 - 1 Frogpool
Frogpool travelled to Newquay's Mount View Stadium feeling confident after last week's emphatic win over Truro and looking to make amends for a fixture that went against them last season. Newquay too must have been feeling good after their away win against Falmouth and both Teams started enthusiastically in this cat and mouse tussle.
At first Newquay's favoured form of attack seemed to be the long ball but on a day when Frogpool's back four looked impervious the home side soon realised that they would need to play the ball on the ground if they were to break through. At the other end, Frogpool seemed to start where they left off last week with probing chances aplenty and right on cue after 20 minutes Luke broke free, once again using his pace and strength to neatly slot home. More opportunities followed and on another day both Scott and Jake could easily have been on the scoresheet to put the game out of Newquay's reach.
Newquay though, had other ideas and managed to compose themselves and started to claw their way back into the game. On the half hour mark they equalised and Frogpool realised they needed to go again, coming close once more before the half time whistle.
Manager Tim rang the changes and Frogpool started the second half with a renewed vigour. With the game going from end to end either side could have scored and Frogpool thought their time had finally come when a breakthrough involving Scott and Luke was narrowly put wide by Jacob S. In truth Newquay's counter attack was looking ominous but heroic defending by the entire back four - Toby, Keaton, Josh and Harrison - generally kept Newquay out of the danger area, and as we have come to expect a goalkeeping masterclass from Thom meant that Newquay would fail to convert in the second half.
As the ferocity of the game and the size of the pitch took their toll Frogpool continued to battle and an exceptional level of commitment from Jacob M ensured Frogpool were able to dominate the loose ball in the middle of the park. However, towards the end of the game, the home side pinned Frogpool in their own half, and just as Frogpool were starting to look like they'd take a draw, a breakaway from Jake put Luke through in a repeat of the first goal , only for him to fire agonisingly wide.
And so it finished 1 - 1. Frogpool will take much from this game. A side still gelling, but looking menacing at times, with some obvious talent and an enviable demonstration of teamwork. Next stop is Falmouth in a couple of weeks at home, surely on this showing and with the advantage of being back at Fortress Frogpool they can get the result they so richly deserve.

Frogpool 4 - 0 Truro City Tigers
On a sunny, Sunday morning after a long rest and recuperation, it was a revitalised Frogpool that welcomed Truro City Tigers to the first game of this exciting new season. Buoyed by some exciting new signings, Frogpool couldn't wait to get started. Truro, who have troubled Frogpool in the past, looked ready for the challenge but were simply unable to cope with the ferocious fire power that Frogpool carried in abundance during this sometimes lively encounter.
Both teams started well with Frogpool going close on a few occasions. Resilient in defence, they resisted Truro's counter-attacks and demonstrated the passing game that has earned them so many admirers. But of course, Frogpool have come to rely on the safe pair of hands that is Thom. However, it wasn't until mid-way in the first half when a neat move involving most of the mid-field was cleverly buried by new striker Scott. This seemed to calm any of the nerves that had come to the surface and Frogpool commanded the remainder of the first half notable for the perseverance of Jake and the defensive heroics of the back four and in particular of Keaton who did not miss a tackle or interception during the entire match. Only the woodwork could save Truro's blushes further in the first half when an instinctive chip from Jake bounced back off the bar.
Frogpool came out for the second half looking like a team focused on completing the job and it didn't take long before a Messi-like run from the half way line down the wing and into the 6 yard box by Jake was passed with pin-point precision for Jacob to bury home. This was the stuff of dreams. A third goal followed soon after courtesy of Scott and it didn't take long before Luke used his power and pace to break through to score with a trademark finish slotted past the oncoming Truro Goalkeeper.
Across the team, today Frogpool gave the adoring home crowd an insight of what this mighty team could be capable of achieving this season. Defensively sound, canny in mid-field and potent in attack, the team was able to make great use of the squad to keep the opposition on their toes.
The next test is Newquay away and the travelling fans will be looking for the team to continue what could be the start of a rich vein of form. I for one can't wait.

Frogpool U14’s 7 – Dad’s U60’s 5
Frogpool scrape narrow win over well organised Dad’s Team
Despite a heroic 2nd half comeback, Frogpool U14 halted their run of end of season losses in what the pundits are calling a pivotal moment for this emerging Team of talent.
Like a ‘75 Chateau Lafitte Rothschild, a 1962 Aston Martin DB4 or, dare I say it, a mature, charismatic and, ahem, sensitive lover, some things mature and improve with age. By the end of this game though, one side looked like they were ready to go partying and the other were auditioning for a Cornish version of Zombie Apocalypse.
Make no mistake, the Dads had clearly been in intensive training for this match. This was not so much a grudge match, but what some saw as perhaps one last chance to teach the whippersnappers a thing or two about the beautiful game. Remember, class is timeless and will always overcome the enthusiasm that walks alongside the innocence of youth. And yet, despite their preparation, emerging from the changing rooms resplendent in their golden football shirts, they had overlooked one small detail. Namely that, for the most part, the team they were playing were at least 20 years younger, un-ravaged by the sands of time or the sins of the world that those many years of hard graft bringing up those very same boys had bestowed upon them.
Nonetheless, there was a job to be done here. This was the Team that dominated the corresponding fixture last year, and whatever the Dads had been up to in the last 12 months surely these young men hadn’t even caught up, let alone overtaken the wise old men?
So the game kicked off, or at least I think it did. The Dads had set out their stall to play deep, to pass the ball, and to use the space they created to wear their opponents down. What was that? 1-nil. Kian. Beautiful finish past the brick wall that is Nigel Neuer? Wow, I was still wondering whether I’d tied my shoelaces up correctly.
Never mind, the sign of a great Team is how it fights back. “We”, errrrrr, sorry, I mean “the Dads” had the experience to deal with this blip, if I could just get my breath back I’d be racing up that wing……….. 2-nil - Ewan – the sweetest of finishes curled around “The Cat”. By half time it was four nil. Scott, Luke, Jake, Anthony, CMck, Ethan?? – I’m not really sure. I wasn’t wearing my glasses.
What the Dads hadn’t realised was that what they were witnessing was not just a playing, but also a coaching master-class. This was Guardiola-esque in its execution. No drama, no clipboards, no grimacing – just quiet, methodical, meticulous and calculating scientific football intelligence. All those years of “not bloody Match of the Day” and “do we have to watch this football again” had cunningly and ruthlessly actually paid off, and in Louise the boys had struck gold. Having worn the Dads down, a mass substitution midway through the 1st half had delivered what could have been a killer blow.
Half time couldn’t have come quickly enough for the visitors, and they huddled together in a group like Meerkats, peering over at their tormentors. They knew they’d taken a beating but this fight wasn’t over yet. It needed some key strategic thinking and ideas, including trying to gradually sneak on several more players, and all of a sudden a game plan was hatched.
As the second half kicked off there was the whiff of a heroic comeback, or maybe the smell meant that someone had actually found some old ralgex at the bottom of the medical bag. The Dads were immediately on the attack. Despite Sy hitting the bar in the first half and several foraging runs from the ever-youthful Chris it fell to the Benjamin Button of the group, yep Jim, to powerfully fire home from the six yard box in a finish reminiscent of Brooking’s ’75 FA Cup winning goal (Youtube it !). Another goal followed, by now I was hallucinating so forgive me for forgetting who scored it, but I do know that I added a second to my haul, thinking back it was a Messi like scissor kick I think, but what this did was to wake up the Frogpool team.
The game went on for an eternity, it really did, but just as the Dads were starting to worry about what aches and pains Monday morning might bring, the Referee, who had managed the game well, called a halt to proceedings.
Now then, can we say that Frogpool learnt anything from today? Well yes, they learnt that being magnanimous in defeat is not something that Dads do well. Winning feels good and this Frogpool team played out of their skins today with great performances all over the pitch. They communicated well and they played good football, the majority of which was precise and on the ground. The power they hold in attack was displayed to the full and the finishing was amazing. If this performance were against one of the Teams they lost to this season would they have won? Who knows, but we’ll sure find out next season. Certainly being right amongst it gave a sense of perspective to the skill, speed and power that the team possesses.
Apologies to the boys I haven’t mentioned, you all played amazingly well. Although asking Thom to come out and score a goal was really taking the mickey!!!
And so 7-5 it was. I think the Dads might be fielding a few more ringers next year – you’d better watch out!!!
To conclude, like the closing credits of Saving Private Ryan I thought a roll call would be appropriate:
Nigel the Cat – yet another amazing performance – unquestionably the Dad’s man of the match.
Mike – showed touches of class that hinted at his past footballing life.
Richard – the enforcer, big, strong, scary!!
Martin – you can see where Luke gets it from (I meant his skill not his stature, that’s still a mystery eh Laura?)
Barry – Ran around like a man 20 years younger (that’s a fiver please Barry)
Tony – “Chopper” – you’d better watch out – he’s coming for you!!
Nigel – built like a racing whippet, poise and control
Chris – stopped it from becoming embarrassing, ran all day and still looked fresh at the end.
Jacob – the bulldozer - he’s coming through!
Jim – McAvennie-esque. Two words – “Quality”, unfortunately the second word is “Street” and he looked liked he’d had his fair share since Christmas.
John – “what knee brace – I’m like a gazelle”
Andy – inside that Bowls Champ there’s a footballer trying to escape
Lee – would’ve made Stevie G proud with that performance
Rob – Ner-ner ner-ner, I’m here and I’m ready to roll.
Tim – the Guvnor – from a distance he took on the appearance of Ian Rush, the glory days.
Sy – one word - Class – it’s in the family genes
Tyler – Like father like son - Dangerous
Lauren’s boyfriend – where did he come from?
Andy – injured, but a menacing presence from the sidelines nonetheless.
Come on you greens!!

Frogpool 0 – 3 Wendron
CHANCES GALORE BUT UNLUCKY FROGPOOL LOSE AGAIN TO WENDRON
It may have been a glorious and sunny Sunday in Frogpool but it was definitely raining chances all afternoon for the home side. Unfortunately though, not goals as Wendron completed a hat trick of wins over the home side in their final league game of the season.
With Frogpool’s position in the league safe after last week’s draw at Charlestown and other results all going their way they were looking to end the season on a high. Wendron still have plenty to play for with the runner’s up spot beckoning and the cup final still to come.
So the game started at pace for both sides. Wendron, who proved to be a first class passing side in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season were initially more inclined to play the long ball over, and despite this team being generally on the small side surprisingly they dominated these aerial attacks. It was end- to-end stuff with both sides creating chances, for Frogpool via Jacob, Scott, Kian and Luke with the overall share of play fairly evenly matched. Once again though, Frogpool were undone by a looping lob over the top of the goalkeeper in a tried and tested tactic that Wendron had used successfully against Frogpool already this season in both of the previous fixtures, and the half finished with the visitors 1 up.
The second half response from Frogpool was focused and chances were created for Scott, who pounded his way through the defence only to push the ball inches wide before two powerful runs culminated with one on one chances for Luke which the goalkeeper did well to save. Kian also came close as did Jake and Ewan but another well placed chip mid way through the second half gave Wendron a 2 nil lead. Manager Tim decided on a change of tactic in order to put a score on the board and moved to a back 3 with Josh helping to lead the attack. Marshall waded in with some dynamic tackling in the midfield having replaced the injured CMck who’d taken a nasty ball full on to the wrist in the first half. In this unfamiliar role though Josh worked hard culminating in several forging attacks both down the wing and through the middle. Wendron meanwhile were finding their rhythm and starting to pass the ball with a bit more purpose than they’d shown in the first half. As the game entered the final quarter a precision ball through split the defence in half and was superbly finished off with a shot across the goal to give an unassailable 3 nil lead. Despite never losing their passion to put the goal in the net Frogpool simply had one of those days where they were not destined to score.
The game finished 0-3 and the visitors will be well pleased with their haul against Frogpool this season that tees them up nicely for the runners up space.
Frogpool can now take a temporary step back from the league and also use some thinking time before looking to learn from what has been a long hard season.
Let’s not forget though that many might say that by far their sternest test lies ahead – yep, the match vs. the Dads. Now that will be a lesson !!
